I’ve been receiving Birchbox samples the last few months, and it’s been mostly a positive experience with no complaints on the samples I’ve gotten. However, I’m not overly impressed, and after this month, I’ve decided to cancel my Birchbox and try something new. So next month I will be receiving the Allure Beauty Box.
I really liked the spring look of the box this month.
Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray | Full-size, $25
For a boost of body and tousled texture (sans, stickiness), spritz this hair styling spray. Sea buckthorn berry adds shine while natural mineral zeolite builds volume.
My thoughts: The first use of this spray made my hair appear thicker and more volumized, and I didn’t use a whole lot. There’s a light smell to it, but nothing overwhelming.
Miracle Balm | Full-size, $16.50
This multipurpose natural formula works to rehydrate skin and lips, soothe sunburns, tame unruly brows, and nourish thirsty cuticles.
My thoughts: This is a small sample, but it’s one of those “a little goes a long way,” items. Because just a dab of this stuff made my lips feel more moisturized, and added a tad gloss to them as well. I haven’t used it on anything else, but I love the fact that it is multipurpose and can be used for other things.
Leave In Conditioner | Full-size, $26
This mist does it all: It smooths, softens, protects, and detangles strands for all-day moisture. Spray on-to damp hair before brushing and heat styling.
My Thoughts: I’m not a big fan of the smell of this, but it did seem to work well on my hair, and my hair felt softer and smoother after using this product.
Luminous 3-Minute Peel | Full-size, $48
Apply this gentle acid-free peel to clean, dry skin for a gorgeous glow. Massage in circular motions to exfoliate, then wash skin with a mild cleanser to remove.
My Thoughts: It says on the back of the container that you can use it in the shower for quick use, so that’s how I attempted to use this. However, I didn’t feel it peel or do anything remotely close to what it was supposed to. I put it on my face and tried massaging it like it said to, and… nothing. So maybe I either didn’t use enough or I didn’t use it right. Regardless, I don’t think I’ll be using this much.
Glazed Lips Donut Lip Gloss | Full-size, $15
Inspired by donut frosting, this sheer rose gold gloss looks (and smells!) just as sweet. Wear alone or on top of a lip color for a multidimensional look.
My Thoughts: I love how light of a look this gloss is! It adds a light shimmer to your lips, and it really does smell like a sweet glazed donut going on your lips (unfortunately, doesn’t taste like donuts). My only complaint about this lip gloss is it doesn’t last very long and would have to applied often for an all day look.
Birchbox is not a bad little box of samples to try out (plus they give you a list of what the products are worth and what they’re meant for), and I may eventually give it another go. However, there are so many subscription boxes out there right now, and I wanted to try something worth a little bit more value. There are a few I want to try eventually, but they are a little pricier.
Have you ever tried this box? What were your thoughts?
