This one is a tough one for me. There was a time in my life when I hated learning about history, but as I got older, I started to really enjoy it and be fascinated by it. I think it may have been all of those books I used to read that were set in different time periods. So for this post, I’m going to narrow it down the the twentieth century. Because as far as previous periods go, I don’t know what to pick. Not to mention there was no such thing as indoor plumbing, and disease was rampant. Sure, there’s a lot of beautiful things about past cultures, but you also have to think realistically, too.
I would love to experience Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt. When they were in their prime years. I’d love to see what life was actually like. To see the pyramids get built. To see how people lived life. In a culture so very different from my own. But I’d love to see it, I dunno if I would enjoy living in it, not with what I know now.
Honestly, I’d want to live in an era where I could also enjoy what I love now. So, I think I’d pick the 50’s. It’s past the Great Depression era, and this was when music was also starting to get good. People drove around in cars, the economy was good. It’d be a good time to live in. Granted, if you really focus on the fine detail, the 50’s weren’t perfect, but let’s face it – what era was truly perfect? The 70’s would be even better. Why is this such a struggle to narrow down?
Okay, fine, if I didn’t have to worry about class or money, I think it’d be interesting to even go further back into the early 1900’s. The twenties would have been interesting. Flapper era, black and white films at the nickelodeon. The style for everything was so different.
I wish I had a time machine, where I could travel back in time to each era and live, even just for a day, in it and see what life was like. What people were like. I think it’s amazing how far we’ve progressed in the last century alone. It’s also scary. I mentioned in one post that I fear robots taking over the world because there are actual people making life like robots out there. Technology is already running the world, why is this not an issue? Artificial Intelligence is terrifying.
Past eras, there were different fears, though. You can’t say there is one era that is better than the other, but there are some that were kind of the “peaceful” years where you heard less about the fears in the world. No wars.
The more I write these posts, the more indecisive I realize I am. It’s so hard for me to narrow things down because I love so much and want to learn as much as I can. To narrow it down to just one thing is something really hard for me to do.
Which era would you love to travel to if you had the chance to?
